ADOPT A FAMILY
As part of our Fall Initiative, ABC Men Inc’s “Adopt-A-Family” program was able to adopt one homeless family of six. All family members were presented with gifts/gift cards. A few of ABC Men Inc.’s Youth With Class along with ABC Men Inc’s Director and Executive Directed held a mini fundraiser, courtesy of Septa, on Friday, December 30, 2011 and went shopping for the gifts presented to the family. ABC Men Inc’s Director, Executive Director and ABC Men’s youngest volunteer, (age 1) delivered the gifts and gift cards to the family’s home. Family also received a gift card from Giant Food Store (donated by Giant’s management). The family expressed great thanks and appreciation. They were excited to receive gifts for the holiday. The children requested that ABC Men Inc reps remain to watch them open up their gifts. While opening their gifts one of the children said “I’ve been wishing for this” referring to one of the gift items presented to him. Words can not express the joy that ABC Men Inc witnessed. Thanks again to those that supported this year’s program. A special thanks again to SEPTA and Lansdowne Giant Food Store for helping in this endeavor. This was a great success! We look forward to helping more families in 2012!!!!

YOUTH FIELDTRIP
ABC Men Inc. hosted a youth fieldtrip to the Philadelphia Forensic Lab on December 29, 2011. This trip was coordinated by Deputy Commissioner, Kevin Bethel of the Philadelphia Police Department and Lieutenant Marvin Burton of the Forensic Science Bureau of Philadelphia. A group of youth was selected to attend this educational trip. Youth were educated via presentations, visual demonstrations on how physical evidence is collected/processed, and a tour of the facility. Men’s Warehouse assisted with dressing our youth for this occasion. Men’s Warehouse provided ties for the males and white shirts for all the youth who attended. This educational experience fascinated our youth. After this trip some of our youth expressed interest in exploring the Forensic field. Special thanks to DC Bethel, Lieutenant Burton and his team, Tracey Lomax and Men’s Warehouse for helping to make this trip a success!

SERVING DINNER TO THE HOMELESS AND LESS FORTUNATE
As part of our Fall Initiative, we volunteered our time serving Thanksgiving Dinner to the homeless and less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day (11/24/11) at Bright Hope Baptist Church, located in North Philadelphia. We were excited for the opportunity to serve approximately 150 people in need. We had a great time serving and interacting with individuals and families at this dinner. Bright Hope Baptist Church issued us “A Certificate of Appreciation” to the members of ABC Men Inc. present.
As a continuation of our Fall Initiative, we served dinners on December 11th and 18th to the homeless at the Arch Street United Methodist Church in Center City Philadelphia. We served approximately 200 people. We assisted in setting up to serve dinner and after serving, we helped to clean and put chairs and tables away. We had a wonderful time. Serving of dinners on all three occasions was a success! A special thanks to Bright Hope and Arch Street United Methodist! We are grateful to groups like you who share our vision of helping others.
